Ruhamah United Methodist Church Bible Verses: I Chronicles 16:24

I Chronicles 16:24Tell of His glory among the nations,

His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.

                        Chronicles was originally one book, and instead of being placed early in the Bible, but in the Jewish Tanakh (Bible), it is placed at the end of the scriptures and is a summary of the scriptures.  It was probably written by an unknown writer after they returned from the Babylonian exile. Possibly about two hundred years after their return. Things were not going the best, and the writer, who is unknown, in fact the was wanting to give the people hope… that God has seen them through all of these things and will continue to see them through. He talks a lot about David, but the writer ignores all the good things that David did. In fact, Chronicles focuses on the hope of the coming Messianic King and the Priesthood where He will rebuild the Temple. He makes it clear that David and all the Kings in David’s dynasty were not the Messianic King that he is was talking about… There is also an odd thing the II Chronicles 36:2 ends as unfinished sentence.  Now if you read the translations, they will have a period or an explanation to end the sentence “may the LORD his God be with him; go up then” Some translations attempt to fill in the blank… But maybe this is the writer’s way to say that the book is not finished until The Messiah comes…but maybe not… but what he is doing is giving hope for the future by showing God’s faithfulness to them over the centuries.

                        The verse in question is from Psalm 96:3 which David wrote. It is one of hope and Joy because the Ark of the Covenant has found a place to rest, and David has been given guidance to build a temple for God and the Ark of the Covenant… It is one filled with Joy…it is filled with thanksgiving… In this verse David is saying tell everyone about the works of God and the deeds for his people and send this news out to every nation…

            Psalm 96

A Call to Worship the LORD the Righteous Judge.

1Sing to the LORD a new song;

Sing to the LORD, all the earth.

2Sing to the LORD, bless His name;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

3Tell of His glory among the nations,

His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.

4For great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised;

He is to be feared above all gods.

5For all the gods of the peoples are idols,

But the LORD made the heavens.

6Splendor and majesty are before Him,

Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.

7 Ascribe to the LORD, you families of the peoples,

 Ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.

8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory of His name;

Bring an offering and come into His courtyards.

9Worship the LORD in  holy attire;

Tremble before Him, all the earth.

10Say among the nations, “The LORD reigns;

Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved;

He will judge the peoples fairly.”

11May the heavens be joyful, and may the earth rejoice;

May the sea  roar, and  all it contains;

12May the field be jubilant, and all that is in it.

Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy

13Before the LORD, for He is coming,

For He is coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world in righteousness,

And the peoples in His faithfulness.

                             Psalms 96 is one of the Psalms that proclaim the coming of the Messiah.  Verses 2 and 3 state:

                             2Sing to the LORD, bless His name;

Proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day.

3Tell of His glory among the nations,

His wonderful deeds among all the peoples.

                                      And Verse 13 says:

                             13Before the LORD, for He is coming,

For He is coming to judge the earth.

He will judge the world in righteousness,

And the peoples in His faithfulness.

                                    From the very beginning God wanted every human being to know of His works and how He cares for all people, and for his children… for us living at this time…  He is saying there is hope in those words.  There is a promise in those words… no matter what you are going through on this day… lift up praise to God and be grateful for what He has done for you but also what He will do for you.

Today’s question…

            Take a look at your life, do you have a specific moment where you know God has been there with you?

Ever in Christ’s love,
